My Approach
My mind is always looking for the culprit – the reason why things are not functioning appropriately with the human body – specifically, the pelvis.
Urinary Incontinence? Over the past week alone, I have flipped through 2 popular magazines and seen multiple different commercials on major television networks advertising more “attractive” and “discreet” adult diapers. They use clips of women snuggling up to their husbands in bed while wearing pads that they’ve now made to be less noticeable.. images of women posing all sassy with diapers made to resemble fancy, lacy underwear.. using the confidence of women as a money-making industry. Why are we covering up the real problem with a band-aid? Why aren’t there more commercials and magazine advertisements letting women know there are options to fix the problem instead of trying to discreetly cover it up? Women deserve to know the culprit reason for why they are leaking, and that there are interventions other than band-aids to restore their confidence and intimacy.

Pelvic Pain? Too often, we get so focused on treating symptoms that we miss the bigger picture. There is usually an underlying culprit, or even a series of culprits, that roll through a chain of reactions to cause a symptom. Typically, we don’t address these culprits (problem areas) until we’re on the other side of that chain reaction and experiencing significant pain and dysfunction. Would you believe me if I told you sometimes a patient comes to see me for foot pain (ie plantar fasciitis) and the culprit is actually in their pelvis?! Common scenario: a runner has asymptomatic pelvic floor weakness, gets pregnant and assumes her symptoms are just “normal” pregnancy symptoms, returns to running after having a baby and again assumes her symptoms are “normal” postpartum symptoms, gradually develops hip pain that limits her runs to a few miles.. then knee pain that limits her runs to a mile.. then foot pain that keeps her from running at all and she decides to go see a PT. The bones, muscles, ligaments, fascia, nerves, vasculature.. they are all interwoven and connected like the gears of a machine. If one gear is slightly off and not tracking correctly, it affects all the surrounding gears. Hence, the chain reaction of dysfunction.
Take away: it is so incredibly important to identify the original culprits for your dysfunction and symptoms - and the pelvis is all too often overlooked! It’s time to talk more about the pelvis! Which brings me to my reason and mission in starting Jojo The Pelvic Pro: let's talk about the pelvis so everyone can own their pelvis and improve their health and wellness.
